Get used to twirling down the little arrows to access RGB pickers and sliders rather than clicking through levels of textures. Octane uses a lot of 'textures' where you would usually expect a slider, usually a ‘Float Texture’. Twirling down the arrow on those elements allows quicker access to the control you actually need.
Otherwise it can get frustrating clicking through sub levels of shaders!
This may be something you already do but it was just something that quickly became apparent to me when looking through materials and lights.
