Before I start texturing the elements and bring everything together into a single machine I wanted to get a general idea of the look/colours/materials. The closest thing I can liken this audio/visual/engine is the sci-fi 'steampunk' look. A mixture of wood, metal (mainly copper and brass) and leather. Lots of cogs, wires, tubes, pressure gauges etc.
I'll have to do some more simple modelling when I bring everything together to create the links and supports/arms/folding mech. Once everything is animated I will add the dynamic elements like wires swinging with real dynamics, perhaps bolts and rivets falling from a few areas onto the floor dynamically to give it a bit of detail.
I want this ident to be the centrepiece as I think it reflects the Mill really well, it will be set on the 5th floor which has the most character and history and also has a wide open space for the machine to operate in and the camera to move around with sweeping motions.
